Our Purpose
Music Deserves Better
Unlabeled Artists is a Seattle-based nonprofit platform dedicated to supporting artists living with substance use disorders and/or mental health challenges. In Seattle, we have witnessed firsthand the devastating toll that addiction, mental illness, and a lack of meaningful support can take on creative lives. Too many gifted artists have struggled in silence, been exploited by an unforgiving industry, or been lost before they had the opportunity to realize their full potential. We believe that recovery is not the end of an artist's story—it is the beginning of its most powerful chapter. No artist should have to choose between their well-being and their calling. Through community, mentorship, advocacy, and opportunity, Unlabeled Artists exists to help musicians heal, create, and thrive while continuing to share their gifts with the world.
Community
A peer-led network of musicians who understand the pressures and vulnerabilities of the music industry.
Mentorship
Our landmark Artist Scholarship Program pairs each musician with genre-specific, culturally informed peer mentors who have firsthand experience navigating the music industry. Through these relationships, artists gain meaningful guidance, trusted support, and access to the networks, opportunities, and industry professionals that can help them build sustainable and successful careers.
Advocacy
We are not afraid to name the systems that continue to harm artists: exploitation, enablement, and stigma. Unlabeled is committed to protecting our artists from those who would take advantage of their vulnerability, creativity, and hope. We will advocate fiercely for their well-being, build structures that foster safety and dignity, and work tirelessly to challenge and transform an industry that has allowed these injustices to persist for far too long.
The Program
Full Scholarships
A structured, community-centered program for musicians who are in recovery and ready to invest in their craft and their lives.
Who Can Apply
Any musician who identifies as being in recovery — from addiction, mental health crisis, or industry burnout — is eligible to apply. We welcome artists at any stage of their career.
